How to donate via IBAN?

Many Ukrainian organizations are accepting funds via IBAN numbers. This is effectively an international bank account number. It was originally adopted by the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS) and later as an international standard under ISO 13616:1997.

While these are not used in the US and Canada, there are still ways to transfer money to these accounts. Your bank may have a way to transfer money directly. Alternatively, you can use one of a number of online services. We recommend Wise (unaffiliated):

  • Go to https://wise.com/
  •  Sign up for an account
  • Click “Send Money”
  • Choose an amount to send and how you would like to send it
    • Bank debit (ACH) – Cheapest. Requires your account and routing number. Takes several days for funds to be received.
    • Wire transfer – Second cheapest. Requires your account and routing number. Funds received within hours.
    • Debit card – Third cheapest. Requires debit card number. Funds received within hours.
    • Credit card – Most expensive. Requires credit card number. Funds received within hours.
  • Choose the appropriate recipient currency (this is usually listed on the donation page, if not then try UAH – Ukrainian Hryvnia). If IBANs for multiple currencies are available, prefer your local currency (e.g. USD – United States Dollar), otherwise use UAH – Ukrainian Hryvnia.
